Project Overview

A targeted WooCommerce image synchronization workflow that processes changed products instead of repeatedly rebuilding media for the entire catalog.

The Challenge

The existing image process treated every synchronization as a catalog-wide job. Even when only a small number of products changed, the workflow could retrieve and rebuild media across the larger product set. That increased API usage, consumed server resources and made individual failures harder to isolate.

The Solution

We separated product-image processing from the full catalog synchronization and introduced targeted update paths. A changed SKU can trigger its own image update, while administrators retain a controlled batch tool for planned bulk synchronization. Each product is handled independently so one failure does not require the entire catalog job to restart.

Technical Implementation

The integration identifies the WooCommerce product by SKU or its stored Zoho item identifier. It retrieves or accepts the relevant image data, preserves the configured attachment order, creates WordPress media attachments and assigns the featured image and gallery. Background jobs are spaced to respect external API limits, and rate-limited work is rescheduled for a later attempt. Administrative bulk runs process eight products per batch to keep resource usage predictable.

Validation

The workflow was checked with single- and multiple-image products, existing galleries, attachment ordering, repeated updates, missing identifiers and rate-limited requests. Product-level processing ensures that a failed image update can be reviewed and retried without modifying unrelated catalog records.

Results

Image synchronization now scales with the products that require work instead of automatically expanding to the full catalog. The store retains an administrative bulk option, while targeted background updates reduce unnecessary processing and make failures easier to identify and retry.

Key Metrics

Changed SKUs Update scope Image work is limited to products included in the incoming update.
8 products Batch size Administrative bulk synchronization runs in controlled batches.
Retryable Rate-limit handling Rate-limited image jobs are rescheduled instead of being discarded.
